Reflecting on Our Roots

How Adler's Design Center & Hardware Became a Providence Landmark

To kickoff our 103rd year in style, we’re excited to share a new video with you all!

Since our doors opened in 1919, Adler’s encountered countless scenarios that led us to adjust, update, and grow our family business into the landmark you know today. Originally starting out as an Army-Navy surplus store on Wickenden Street in Providence, we added traditional hardware to our inventory after WWII. Then in the early 1960’s, we expanded our hardware department to meet the growing demand of the Providence community and with each passing decade kept growing with the additions of the paint department and design center.

In this video, third-generation owners Harry and Marc reflect and share their experiences growing up in the family business and talk about what their mission has always been.

“We’re not here today to just sell something, we’re here for the long haul. So solving problems to the highest level has always been our mantra”, says Harry.

We pride ourselves on the fact that you know that when you step into our store, you step into an old-school, upscale store whose team can answer any “fix-it, better-it” question you bring in. “If I were gonna describe Adler’s in two words and that's really easy and the answer would be helping people”, says Marc. And we maintain our legacy of delivering superb customer service with integrity (and lots of love!)

Watch our new video to hear about Harry and Marc’s experiences growing up in the family business, and how the store has transformed into the Providence landmark you know today.
