Powered by Humans For 107 Years… Harry Adler Unfiltered:

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) "Social connection is the pillar of lifestyle medicine. Humans are wired to connect, and this connection affects our health. From psychological theories to recent research, there is significant evidence that social support and feeling connected can help people maintain a healthy body mass index, control blood sugars, improve cancer survival, decrease cardiovascular mortality, decrease depressive symptoms, mitigate post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms and improve overall mental health."

I think it's safe to say that while AI has a rapidly growing place in the world, there is plenty of evidence that artificial intelligence is not doing much to improve one's social connections, and all the associated health benefits. The same could be said about shopping on Amazon. I am going to make the case that, in stark contrast, shopping with local brick- and- mortar businesses like Adler's is good for one's mental and physical health.

For 107 years Adler's has been based on real human interactions. We do our best to answer every customer’s question with honest advice. When a customer asks me a question, I always think “What would I do if it were my house?" I think you will find that all of our wonderful staff, many of whom have worked at Adler’s for decades- do likewise. It's a very simple formula that has served us well over many decades.

Another major benefit of shopping locally is that unlike major chains, local shops, give people a sense of place. Starbucks does not tell you where you are. The Coffee Exchange and Rise 'n Shine will. I've always viewed PPS as an organization that since 1956 has worked tirelessly spearheading the successful preservation of significant buildings, cultural landscapes and neighborhoods across Providence. Those efforts have helped maintain a strong sense of place. So, in very tangible ways, Adler's and PPS have always had a symbiotic relationship. Thoughtful maintenance of historic properties requires goods and services that we have proudly supplied since my grandfather started Adler's in 1919.

For the entire month of April, Adler's will be holding our annual Spring Sale. If you don't yet know us, come discover our amazing selection of decorative hardware, custom window treatments, wallpapers, and C2 Paint all on sale.

So, shop local and continue to support PPS. It makes a real difference.
